Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an e
ight-week program that assists people who want to learn t
o use their own internal resources to respond more skillf
ully to stress, medical and psychological conditions, and
promote healthy living. It offers spiritual insight and
practices along with their practical application to healt
h and wellbeing.
The classes are modeled after the one
s offered at the Stress Reduction Clinic developed by Dr.
Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medica
l Center. This 30-year-old program is highly respected in
the medical community. It and also has been featured on
PBS in Bill Moyers’ documentary, “Healing and
the Mind”, the Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC’s Dat
eline, ABC’s Evening News, and hundreds of newspape
rs and magazine articles.
The course schedule consists
of eight weekly classes and one day-long workshop. This
highly participatory, practical course includes:

d instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
Gentle
stretching and mindful yoga
Group dialogue and discussi
ons aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
Daily
home assignments
Four home practice CDs and a home pract
ice manual
Participants attending the two-hour class s
hould bring comfortable clothing, layers for adjusting to
the temperature, and pillows for comfort. Chairs will be
