Ramji and Eric,
We wanted to follow up on the China strategy in general and as it relates
to this round. I spoke to Nan at CDIB a moment ago and it is clear that 1)
you guys are not an ideal fit for them and they would need to do a lot more
work as they focus on more cash flowing, buyout-like opportunities and 2)
their real strength is in Taiwan, rather than the mainland.
We discussed as a partnership and believe a more fruitful and strategic
route would be to seek an investor/partner from the mainland rather than
take an interim step in Taiwan. We have deep relationships in China and
could introduce you to a number of potential partners including China
Investment Corporation (CIC), a $400bn sovereign wealth fund as well as
several other potential investors/partners.
Hunter and Devon spend a lot of time in the region and will come back to us
with a full list of potential intros for your thoughts next week.
In parallel, we would like to set up a call with you and Shirley Young to
strategize about China market entry.
