Dear Hunter,
Thanks. Yes, I just received the autographed photo of myself and your dad taken in Wilmington at the station dedication and was preparing to respond. It was forwarded to me from Joe McHugh's office in Washington.
I am both humbled and honored by your kindness. It will always occupy a place of honor in our home.
By way of explanation, June 30 was my last day in Corporate Communications and Government Affairs at Amtrak Headquarters. I have now moved on to a temporary post as an assistant to the superintendent of Amtrak's Auto Train operations, with an office in Lorton , VA, until I retire in a few months. Like someone else we both know, I accepted both posts with the understanding that I wished to remain close to my family, so for the past three years I have commuted up and back daily from the Richmond area. I've served the railroad for over 34 years (32 of them as a locomotive engineer), and although my job has meant being away many times when it comprised a hardship, my wife and family have supported me, and above all else, I owe them my best.
I wish you success in all of your endeavors. Please call upon me if ever I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Alvin (Doug) Riddell
